I don’t know about you, but to me, non-essential workers would be all of us who were not considered “essential” in the first place! I hate to define a concept saying what it’s not; I apologize for that, but it’s just not crystal clear to me. Do you have it clear?
For instance, I checked that “freelancers” are on the list of the non-essential. However, if the freelance worker is an English teacher, such as me, and considering that schools and academies are still on lockdown, then even though I’m a freelancer, I don’t have to go back to work, right? I wonder how many other freelance workers, are in similar cases; wondering… My point is that things are not black and white on this. Or is it just me who is confused?
As a freelancer and owner of a Language Center, I have told my staff to stay home and continue teaching our precious students online, to keep safe. That I’m 100% clear about; keeping my staff and students safe. But what about other non-essential businesses, which cannot work from home and have gone back to work today?
I understand that it has been a month by now, nevertheless, my gut says it’s too soon. My heart is crushed just to think about all the people who have to go back to work to keep their jobs. Please take care!
